About Similkameen Country

Promotion of Local Businesses

• Business After Business: Each month one of our member businesses hosts a Business After Business event. This is an opportunity for the business to showcase its products and/or services to the community and to other Similkameen Country members. It affords an excellent chance for networking with community members and other local businesses.

• Exposure and Visibility: Member businesses have opportunities to display information in the Community Resource Centre (Info Centre). Also, member businesses are listed in the member business directory on Similkameen Country's website. In addition businesses are featured in category listings which include a business' contact information, logo, a picture related to the business along with email and website links.

• Community Events: Each year Similkameen Country puts on a Canada Day Celebration, a Christmas Lighup & Parade, the Taste of Our Valley, the Similkameen Sizzle and, occasionally, other one-time events.These events offer local businesses special opportunities to present themselves to the public

• Business Workshops: Similkameen Country puts on workshops of interest to local business owners.

• Economic Development: Similkameen Country is involved in the Similkameen Economic Development Committee

• Listing on the Similkameen Country Website: Members' businesses are listed on this website in the Members' Business section where a short description of the business is displayed along with contact information.

• Member Awards: Similkameen Country will soon be sponsoring awards of excellence in categories such as: Best Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Community Booster Business of the Year, Best Restaurant of the Year, etc. These awards will be determined by member nominations and voting.

Promotion of Our Community

• Community Events: The annual community events put on by Similkameen Country (described above) bring local people and visitors together to celebrate and enjoy some of the very best aspects of life in our community.

• Dissemination of Information: The Community Resource Centre provides locals and visitors with up to date information about events and attractions in our area. Similkameen Country also promotes our local area throughout BC, Canada, and other countries.

• Community Calendars: Similkameen Country compiles a calendar each year that focuses on our local area. There is also a Community Events Calendar on the Similkameen Country website.

• Political Forums: At elections times Similkameen Country organizes all candidates forums.

Promotion of Tourism in Our Area

• The Community Resource Centre: Our inviting Info Centre provides a central and very accessible location for the distribution of information to both visitors and locals alike. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are on hand to provide visitors to the CRC with materials related to the recreational activities and tourist attractions in our area.

• Community Events: The community events put on each year by Similkameen Country attract visitors to our area from neighboring communities and even further away.

• Promotional Materials: Similkameen Country prepares and distributes materials promoting our area.

• Networking: Similkameen Country is a member of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and the South Okanagan Similkameen Circle Tour Group.

• Representation: Similkameen Country meets with local, Provincial and Federal government representatives on behalf of our community members.

• Trade Shows: Similkameen Country representatives attend trade shows in order to promote tourism in our area
